Hello Pasta! - Interesting Roof!

In designing a casual fast-food chain in NYC, architect Antonio Di Oronzo looked to the history of pasta making for inspiration, using oodles of noodles in his plan, resulting in a quirky, colourful space.

‘The design of Hello Pasta was inspired by the way pasta was traditionally hand-made and hung to dry on wooden racks,’ Di Oronzo explains, referring to the beige strips of wood that horizontally stretch across the ceiling.

The fixture is made of lazer-cut plywood and disguises the mechanical systems above it. The simple lighting comes from bulbs hung from exposed black electrical cords between the wooden strips.

Di Oronzo says the natural colour of the ceiling wood and seating units make for an organic atmosphere and non-linear design.

Hello Pasta is planning to expand into an international franchise and Di Oronzio says he needed to take this into consideration in the design.
